At Belpre Dental Studio, we strive to empower our patients through preventative care and daily dental hygiene habits. Our goal is for our patients to preserve their health and encounter the minimum and least invasive dental treatment possible.
Research has shown, and our dentists can confirm, that children who enter adulthood with the fewest restored teeth have the lowest risk of future dental problems.
What Are Dental Sealants
Typically, the chewing surface of molars has deep grooves that reach into the center of the tooth. It is common for bacteria to accumulate in these areas. “Sealing” these grooves in permanent molars at a young age, drastically reduces the risk of decay occurring on the chewing surface of the tooth.
Since the chewing surface is the #1 place for decay to develop, this can protect the tooth for many years to come. Fortunately, this procedure can be done quickly and without any injections or pain.
What To Expect When Getting A Dental Sealant
If the tooth is free of cavities, it can be gently cleaned and conditioned for bonding. Next, a resin material is applied and quickly sealed with a blue activating light. Within a few minutes, the permanent molars have a protective barrier against harmful cavities.
Typically, sealants last a few years, they may need to be repaired or replaced. Dental research confirms there is up to a 90% reduction in chewing surface decay in sealed molars.
This painless, cost-effective, and simple treatment can help your child enter adulthood with fewer fillings and less risk of major dental work down the road.
